Job Summary: The Rental Business Development Specialist (RBDS) is responsible for driving profitable rental growth through new customer acquisition, expansion of existing accounts, and the development of rental relationships. This role works cross‑functionally with Branch, Rental, Sales, and Service teams to deliver effective rental solutions that retain customers and increase the regional share of rental business. The RBDS supports both the commercial and operational aspects of the rental process—proactively prospecting and engaging customers, collaborating with the sales team to identify and convert growth opportunities, and monitoring rental revenue performance against established goals. In addition, the role assists with key operational activities including sourcing rental equipment, coordinating freight movements, creating rental contracts, and maintaining accurate internal system records to ensure seamless execution and customer satisfaction.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Identify, target, and convert prospective rental customers through strategic prospecting and engagement
  • Proactively develop rental opportunities for short‑term, long‑term, and specialty equipment needs
  • Partner with Sales Representatives, Branch Managers, and Rental Managers to convert prospects into active rental customers
  • Conduct customer needs assessments and develop tailored rental solutions
  • Increase rental penetration and expand services with existing accounts
  • Promote additional MH Equipment products and specialty service offerings to existing customers
  • Follow up on all customer leads from internal and external sources
  • Maintain accurate pipeline, activity tracking, and customer records in CRM
  • Monitor rental revenue performance against established growth goals
  • Optimize customer relationships through proactive touchpoints and responsive issue resolution
  • Maintain accurate customer files, notes, and documentation in compliance with company procedures
  • Attend and actively participate in all required sales and company meetings
  • Participate in company‑sponsored training to enhance sales effectiveness and product knowledge
  • Receive and respond to all rental equipment inquiries for designated location(s), quoting rates, providing delivery, etc. ensuring that every call or email is handled with superior customer service in alignment with our company’s Vision, Mission, and Values. This may include responding to an after-hours call occasionally.
  • Source rental equipment demands (external and internal customer) from existing fleet and when not available source from outside vendors.
  • Create rental contracts in the system, manage rental contract pricing (discounts and proper billing rates) and ensure rental contract information and paperwork is accurate.
  • Communicate the movement (delivery & return) of rental equipment with designated branch contact.
  • Ensure that rental contracts are complete including signed and filed appropriately upon receiving paperwork back from delivery/pickup.
  • Coordinate with designated person(s) all check-ins (returns) within 24 hours from return of equipment to make sure equipment has no damage or misuse and is made rent ready for next rental.
  • In the event a unit is returned with damage or misuse, work with the customer to conclude and coordinate invoice of repairs.
  • Close out and final invoice of rental contract at end of rental.
  • Report any lost orders (including re-rents).
  • Other administrative and support duties as assigned.
  • Present a professional image in personal appearance, dress and preparation.

  • Valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions: Hours will be 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday plus whatever time is required to accomplish the goals of the position. This is a salaried, exempt position.
