What Makes Decatur Home

Decatur has spent more than 150 years building its identity around industry, agriculture, transportation, and innovation. Located in the heart of Central Illinois, the city grew alongside the surrounding agricultural economy and developed into a major processing and manufacturing center.

Lake Decatur has also become one of the community’s defining landmarks, while Decatur’s ties to Abraham Lincoln and even the early history of the Chicago Bears add a few unexpected chapters to the city’s story.

Industries That Move Decatur Forward

Manufacturing, agriculture, biotechnology, food processing, clean energy, and logistics keep Decatur moving.

Decatur remains one of Central Illinois’ major industrial centers. Companies including ADM, Caterpillar, Primient, Fuyao Glass, Mueller, and TCCI are part of a business base that spans advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, food and agriculture, clean energy, and related industries.

The city’s logistics capabilities are another major advantage. The Midwest Inland Port, rail infrastructure, and highway connections help move agricultural products, raw materials, and finished goods throughout the country.

MH Equipment supports the facilities behind that economy with forklifts, service, parts, rentals, fleet support, and warehouse solutions that help materials keep moving.
